Learn/Train Here

We partner with institutions of higher education to work to prevent and end homelessness.

Please Note: Due to COVID 19, we have limited our placements and are unable to facilitate volunteer opportunities at this time. All group projects and opportunities have been suspended until further notice. Please check back after June 30, 2021. We appreciate your interest in training with us.

Internships and Clinical Learning/Training

Health Care for the Homeless is committed to the development of future health professionals. Individuals placed at Health Care for the Homeless get an in-depth look at how community health centers function and learn about future health care careers. Applicants can be placed in various departments, including in health centers, community outreach, or program development, depending on their experience and interests.

Clinical learners regularly collaborate with our care providers as part of their professional training.

  • Graduate social work students fine-tune their personal approach and clinical skills as they assess walk-in clients and, eventually, carry their own caseloads and provide therapy sessions to clients.
  • Medical and nursing students learn about caring for individuals with very limited resources and deeply challenging life situations.

Our placements are also divided into three tracks:

Medical

Behavioral Health

Internships

Includes BSN/RN, Medical Assistant, Nursing and OT students seeking clinical rotations.

Includes BSW/MSW students seeking experience working with client caseloads.

Includes MPH, Public Administration and international medical students seeking research opportunities or more advanced internships.
